S'mores Day!

Hello Everyone!
I'm back with S'more fun activities that we did this week!  Our animal study led us to a camping theme which led us to...S'MORES!!  What a perfect opportunity for some great fraction practice and some expository writing!!  To start the day we worked on identifying the fraction of sets of marshmallows. The kids had to tell what fraction of the marshmallows were regular sized. Each kiddo started with a bag of marshmallows ( bags numbered 1-24).  After determining the fraction of his/her bag and writing the fraction on a recording sheet, he/she had to trade bags with someone and continue recording.  By the end of the lesson they recorded 24 fractions.  So fun!
Next? On to making s'mores!  We brainstormed a lot about what kind of words we need in order to write a clear "How To" piece. We got into our experience by "roasting " marshmallows over our campfire.  Then, of course, we made the delicious snack!  (The cafeteria ladies were so kind to let us use their big baking sheets and ovens!)  YUM!!  These activities helped writing our "How To Make S'mores" pieces so much more relevant. Great job, kids!
Reading poetry about S'mores and having a craft connection helped to finish the experience!!  So fun!! Enjoy the pics.
